Case Study

From Delays to Navy Compliance in 35 Days

Situation

At Camp Lejeune, a prime contractor initially awarded the crane scope to a low-bid competitor—an established name in general industry crane manufacturing. As we often see, general industry providers tend to prioritize performance and cost, but Navy crane projects demand far more.

These projects require strict adherence to Navy Crane Center standards, including multiple layers of design review, technical approvals, cybersecurity compliance, and certification documentation—each with zero tolerance for deviation. Contractors experienced only in the commercial sector often underestimate the complexity and rigor of these requirements.

After nine months of failed submittals and mounting delays, the Navy threatened to pull the contractor’s bond. That’s when Craneworks was brought in.

Outcome

Within 35 days, our design received full approval, fabrication was underway, and the project was back on track—fully compliant and mission-ready. With Craneworks, you get it done right—the first time.

FAQ

What if my crane submittals keep getting rejected by the Navy Crane Center?

This is one of the most common challenges general contractors face. Low-bid crane providers often lack experience with Navy/DOD compliance, leading to repeated rejections. We specialize in Navy-approved crane designs — we’ve stepped in on stalled projects and secured approvals in weeks, not months.

Do you only work on military projects?

While our foundation is with the Navy and DOD, we also support general industry contractors who need high-compliance crane systems. Our expertise in mission-critical projects translates into reliable results in any regulated environment.

Can Craneworks handle both design and installation?

Yes. Unlike many providers, we can take your crane scope from design and fabrication through installation and commissioning, ensuring full compliance and seamless integration into your facility.

How do you work with other subcontractors on my project?

We coordinate directly with your structural, electrical, and mechanical subs to ensure crane loads, envelopes, and power requirements are fully integrated — reducing rework and delays.

Are you more expensive than other crane subs?

Depends. Our clients often save time, money, and risk by avoiding rejected submittals, locked-out cranes, and costly project delays. With us, the crane scope is done right the first time.

Can you take over a project that’s already behind schedule?

Absolutely. We’re often called in to rescue crane scopes where other subcontractors failed. We can redesign, secure approvals, and get your project moving again quickly.
